Home to the late surfing and lifeguard legend Eddie Aikau, Waimea Bay's huge surf is legendary. The shorebreak was at least 10 feet, and the waves on the outer break were topping the 20 foot level. The energy was unreal!

The Real Deal Baywatch

When the beach is closed, the lifeguards mean it. An unwitting (and probably mostly stupid) tourist attempted to body surf the shorebreak. In a matter of minutes he was caught in the rip, which quickly pulled him toward the rocks on the left. Two lifeguards swam in, and a third went in on a longboard. The chopper was called in, just in case.
